Diving the 'Northern Wrecks and Reefs' Itinerary on board the Ghazala Adventure. This liveaboard boat is the latest edition to the Ocean Tribe fleet and to date is the best liveaboard experience I have had the pleasure to dive from. The boat launched in June 2025 and is fitted to a very high specification, the 43m steel-hull Ghazala Adventure hosts up to 26 guests in 12 air-conditioned cabins. Accommodation options include 9 twin cabins, 1 lower-deck suite, 1 single suite on the upper deck, and 2 upper-deck twin/double suites — all with private en-suite bathrooms

The Northern Red Sea is famous for its wreck diving. The region is home to several historic shipwrecks, each with its own unique story to tell. The map in the image below details some of these wrecks which are dived on this itinerary.

One of the most famous wrecks is the SS Thistlegorm, a British merchant navy ship that was sunk during World War II. The wreck is now a popular dive site, with divers able to explore the ship's cargo holds, which are still filled with military vehicles, motorcycles, and other wartime supplies.

I have dived this wreck now from three previous dive trips on other liveaboards, first diving it in 1997 and having made a dozen dives on this wreck since. The night dive on this wreck is amazing, so full of life and so atmospheric .

The wreck has degraded over the years, however still remains an iconic wreck and an extremely enjoyable dive experience. It can also be very busy with other divers especially during summer. Travelling as I have in December does help to reduce this a little.

Other notable wrecks in the Northern Red Sea include the SS Dunraven, a British steamship that sank in 1876, and the Giannis D, a Greek cargo ship that sank in 1983. Both wrecks have become artificial reefs, attracting a diverse range of marine life.

The Northern Red Sea is also famous for some spectacular reef dives. This trip itinerary combines the best of both wreck and reef dive sites which is what makes it so popular. Some of the reef dive sites visited on this trip are detailed in the image above showing both the wrecks and reef sites.
